Question marks (?)
Students should be careful not to put a question mark (?) at the end of an indirect question.
A direct question forms a complete sentence and asks a question and henceneeds a question mark, e.g. What’s your name?
However, an indirect question is a sentence which does not ask a question, but tells you what question was asked. This type of question does not need a question mark, e.g. He asked what your name is.
Sometimes a question can be added at the end of a regular sentence, e.g. Today is very hot, isn’t it? In this case we need a question mark.
